HireVue's AI does not track your eyes or analyze your face. It scores the transcript of what you say against job competencies. A person watching the recorded video can still see you reading from a script.
What HireVue's AI looks at
HireVue says its AI scoring does not use facial analysis, video or audio data. It scores the transcript of your answer against the competencies for the role.
The company stopped using video inputs in new models early in 2020. In 2021 it said it would also remove speech inputs such as tone and pauses.
HireVue never uses the video to identify you. There is no facial recognition in the process.
The transcript score is one input in the hiring decision. A recruiter can weigh it with the recorded answer and the rest of the application.
What a human reviewer sees
People make the final hiring decision. Recruiters and hiring managers watch the recorded answers in HireVue's review screen and rate them.
A reviewer watching the video can see your eyes moving across a script. A read-aloud delivery is also audible. The software may not score those cues, but the person watching can.
The shared-script check
HireVue's own blog in 2023 described a check for shared scripts. The system compares answers across candidates and flags pairs that are near-identical word for word. Those pairs are then reviewed side by side.
A script copied from a list of common answers is the kind of thing that check is designed to catch.
How to use notes without reading
Short bullet prompts placed near the camera are less visible than a full script. Your eyes move less, and the delivery sounds closer to speech.
Practice each answer once out loud. A rehearsed answer with a few bullet cues reads better on video than a written paragraph read from the screen.
What HireVue does not do
HireVue does not score your appearance, and it does not reject you automatically. The score is one input, and a human makes the decision.
If your question is about detection more broadly, read whether HireVue can detect cheating.
For employers
A transcript score is one signal, and a recorded answer is another. Compare candidates with structured scoring across every answer. AI Candidate Evaluation keeps that comparison consistent.
