Mettl can record or monitor your screen during an assessment when the employer enables remote proctoring. That does not mean every Mettl test records your desktop. The assessment configuration determines whether screen capture, webcam checks, microphone access, or other monitoring tools are required.
When Mettl screen recording is used
Mettl assessments can be configured for different levels of supervision. Before the test begins, the platform may run a system check and request permissions. Watch for instructions mentioning screen sharing, screen recording, webcam access, microphone access, or proctoring.
The employer may choose a lighter assessment for an early screening stage or stronger monitoring for a high-integrity test. The invitation and consent notice should identify which mode applies to you.
What Mettl proctoring may monitor
Depending on the employer's settings, a monitored Mettl assessment may include:
- Screen activity while the assessment is open
- Webcam images or video for identity and presence checks
- Microphone input when audio monitoring is enabled
- Browser and test-window behavior such as leaving the assessment
- Identity verification before or during the test
Do not grant permissions you do not understand. Review the notice and ask the recruiter which information is collected and reviewed.
Does Mettl record every assessment?
No. Mettl monitoring is configured for the specific assessment. Some tests rely mainly on timed questions and skills scoring, while others use remote proctoring to protect the result from impersonation or outside assistance.
If the test invitation does not explain whether screen recording applies, ask before you start. A simple question such as "Will this assessment record my screen or webcam?" gives you a clear answer without delaying the process.
How to prepare
- Complete the technical check before the assessment window.
- Use a quiet, well-lit workspace.
- Close unrelated tabs and applications.
- Remove private documents from the visible desktop if screen sharing is required.
- Keep your identification available if the setup requires verification.
Bottom line
Mettl may record your screen when remote proctoring is enabled, but screen recording is not universal across all Mettl assessments. Check the invitation, permissions, and consent screen for the exact rules of your test.
