HireVue video interviews AI hiring interviewer

How Do Employers Review HireVue Interviews?

3 min read

Recruiters and hiring managers watch a candidate's recorded answers inside HireVue, rate them, and submit a recommendation. Where the employer has switched them on, AI summaries, transcripts and scores sit beside the recordings as extra inputs. The human review decides who moves forward, the same split an AI Hiring Interviewer is designed around.

The review itself

According to HireVue's recruiter help center, a reviewer opens the candidate card and selects See Interview for an on-demand interview, or View Candidate Details for a live one. They then:

  1. Watch the responses, replaying or jumping between questions.
  2. Give a star rating and add comments.
  3. Record an overall hiring recommendation.
  4. Click Submit Feedback. Once submitted, the review can't be changed.

If the interview stage is set to advance candidates automatically, ratings can move candidates to the next step.

Sharing with hiring managers

Recruiters can send an interview to hiring managers by email for review. A setting decides whether those reviewers can only watch or can also leave feedback: interview notes, question-level ratings and question-level notes. The recruiter can add a deadline or ask the reviewer to focus on specific answers.

What the AI adds

HireVue's newer review tools generate AI summaries, searchable transcripts and highlighted moments, so a team can review faster. For employers that use AI-scored interviews, HireVue says the scores come only from the transcribed text of what candidates say. It says it does not analyse facial expressions, body language or tone of voice. HireVue dropped visual analysis in January 2021, after its own research found it added little predictive value compared with language. HireVue describes the scores as inputs to the employer's decision, not the decision itself.

What candidates often get wrong

Reviewers don't always watch every answer in full. Recruiters reviewing at volume tend to use the scorecard and summary to decide which interviews get a full watch. A clear, structured answer early in each response matters more than polish.

Making reviews consistent

Employers get fairer, faster decisions when every reviewer uses the same competency-based rating guide, reviews the same questions, and submits ratings before discussing candidates with each other. HireVue's structured questions and rating tools support that. The discipline has to come from the hiring team.
